La Concha is part of the series of 8 works by award-winning artist Kalle Johansson "Art by KMJ", uniquely created for Japandi Collection's "Art Selection".
The rays of the setting sun sweep through mountain peaks and palm trees, and the reflections of the mountain surround the viewer in a soft, dreamy shimmer, evoked through the artist’s skillful use of beige and white water-based paint. This soft base forms the foundation of the work, over which the trowel and sander have shaped subtle, abstract features – a conscious and sophisticated choice to capture the soul of the sunset in an intimate and intuitive way.
In this work, light is not only part of the composition, but acts as the very nerve that carries the work. The light creates the feeling of lightness and space that permeates every brushstroke. Only sparingly have small, precisely placed details in the form of dark lines from a neat brush been allowed to cut through the light and stripped surface; these gently highlight contrasts without disturbing the overall harmony. Here, simplicity and light interact in a balanced, timeless beauty.
The abstract expression reinforces the feeling of a landscape that exists in both the physical and spiritual worlds. Through the lack of clear, figurative details and the subtle manipulation of the surface, the work opens up for an ambiguous interpretation. The viewer's eye is guided through a subtle rhythm of light and shadow, where the shape of the mountain is both present and at the same time ephemeral. It is not a direct depiction of nature, but rather an inner experience of it – a meditative and almost spiritual journey, where the viewer is invited to find their own mountain in the soft, abstract forms. Here the mountain becomes a symbol of the unconscious, a reflection of human emotions and thoughts, embedded in a timeless, universal silence.
